APNA Best Practice Finalist
Each year the Australian Practice Nurse Association recognizes nurses who are ‘champions’ in a number of award categories and the awards are open to all Australian Practice Nurse Association members from around the country.
All nominations are judged by an independent panel of industry experts and the two finalists in each Award are invited to attend the APNA Best Practice Awards Presentation Dinner, where the winners are announced.
Rachel Sargeant RN/RM, practice nurse at Draper Street Family Medical in Cairns has been selected as one of two finalists in the Women’s Health category. In addition to “well woman” clinics Rachel has been instrumental in developing and instigating a comprehensive, midwife lead, general practice based antenatal and postnatal care program.
As a result of Rachel’s drive and vision Draper Street Family Medical now employs two midwives and offers a complete range of midwifery based services. These include midwifery lead antenatal care program, lactation advice, post natal home visits, postnatal exercise programs and onsite specialist physiotherapy with an emphasis on pelvic floor rehabilitation.
“I am excited about our work being recognized at a national level”, Rachel said. “I feel lucky to have found a practice that has supported and encouraged me in developing this program”
Rachel is in the running to receive $5000 to contribute to further career development.
